.June 26: KRS-One at 19 Broadway Niteclub

It was one of those shows seemingly destined to fizzle. KRS-One, onstage in Santa Rosa last month, struggled with monitor problems for a solid half-hour. You’d think he’d learn his lesson and show up to sound checks, but before long he’d found a microphone he liked. “That’s the one!” he yelled, and promptly jumped off the stage into the crowd. For one or two songs, it seemed like a novelty; after three or four songs, it was clear that the Bronx rapper would finish the show out on the floor, among the people, clearing a circle for break dancers and running through hits like “Sound of Da Police,” “My Philosophy” and “P Is Free.” “Now that was hip-hop!” he declared, walking through the break dancers at show’s end and leaving his fans in a sweaty daze. Before he joins the Rock the Bells tour to perform Criminal Minded in its entirety, catch him live and onstage—or on the floor—Saturday, June 26, at 19 Broadway Niteclub. 19 Broadway, Fairfax. 9pm. $20–$25. 415.459.1091.
