.June 25: Ani DiFranco at the Uptown Theatre

The original poster girl with no poster, Ani DiFranco remains one of modern folk music’s most magnetic personalities, with a devoted fan base following her every album—no small task, since she’s up to 20 of them by now. Devotees of her first acoustic releases have grown to love her band, usually a sparse but funky combo anchored by the jazz bassist Todd Sickafoose, and DiFranco’s onstage wit and outright joy at performing are a constant. The fiercely independent songwriter, who owns and operates the Righteous Babe label, recently restored a church in her hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., and turned it into Babeville, a concert venue. So it’s a fine fit when DiFranco plays Friday, June 25, at the recently restored Uptown Theatre (1350 Third St., Napa; 8pm; $47.50; 707.259.0123). She also plays with folk icons galore at the three-day Kate Wolf Festival running June 25–27 (Black Oak Ranch, Laytonville; $60–$70 daily; 707.829.7067).
