While vaudeville flourished in America in the 1920s and 1930s, Mexico had its own theatrical movement called the carpa, or tent show. This week, the always innovative Imaginists theater presents a new take on the old tradition with a one-time performance of their original work titled ‘La Carpa Americana.’
Employing all of the physical comedy, music, satire and politics of the classic shows, the group turns these staples into a surreal look at current social and cultural issues with five enlightening acts, performed in Spanish and English. Carpa Americana plays out on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Green Music Center, 1801 E. Cotati Ave., Rohnert Park. 7:30pm. Free (tickets required). 866.995.6040.
