Always a festival highlight, this season's Dance Gala revels in the magic of one of the world's great dance companies: the San Francisco Ballet. America's oldest professional ballet company, the San Francisco Ballet created the first American productions of Swan Lake and Nutcracker, and in recent decades has commissioned and premiered works by leading contemporary choreographers including Mark Morris, William Forsythe and Christopher Wheeldon. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson, the company, which The New York Times called "one of the world's most important vehicles for new ballet choreography," has risen to the top ranks.
