Cabaret is set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power. It focuses on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, where the Master of Ceremonies and his dancers entertain all comers. Among the crowd is a young American writer, Cliff Bradshaw, who develops a relationship with an English cabaret performer, Sally Bowles, while ominous political developments loom over the libertine world of late Weimar Germany. The 1966 original Broadway production became a major hit, inspiring numerous subsequent productions in London and New York, as well as the 1972 film of the same name.
