When: Fri., Sept. 29, 6-8:30 p.m. 2017

The fossil record showing that horses evolved in North America poses implications for our wild horse populations and how they are managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Why are wild horse populations not afforded the same protections of other native wildlife species? Sarah Lockwood will discuss the evolution of horses, their disappearance from North and South Americas during the the late Pleistocene, and their reintroduction by Europeans. She will also discuss how the history of horses affects the management of wild horse management and what she would like to see changed
