Explore the natural world as a source of inspiration and a source of materials for textile design. We will begin by walking along the nearby Joe Rodota Trail to gather materials and inspiration, returning to the school to explore natural dyes and a variety of surface design techniques on fiber, including eco-printing, shibori, smocking and embroidery. We will discuss the many conceptual and technical connections that textiles have to the natural world. Students will complete multiple samples and an eco-printed silk scarf, and may also begin a personal project with advice and guidance from Jennifer.
