Bruno Ferrandis, conductor Yevgeny Sudbin, piano R. Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor Wagner: Overture to Tannhäuser Bartók: Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin We pay homage to Richard Strauss on his 150th birthday with his tone poem chronicling the misadventures of the German peasant folk hero, Till Eulenspiegel. Sublime pianist Yevgeny Sudbin, recipient of the 2013 UK Critics Circle Award for Exceptional Young Instrumental Talent, takes on the Emperor Concerto with elegance and incredible technique. Scandalous in its day, Bartók’s showpiece is a legend of sexual intrigue, violence and hints of romantic love.
