Bruno Ferrandis, conductor Christian Poltéra, cello Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun Dutilleux: Tout un monde lointain Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 has been called “perfect,” and even the composer himself said it was “one of my best works.” Combine its feeling of spontaneity with Debussy’s revolutionary Prelude—based on a poem by Mallarmé—and a classic/romantic balance is struck. The charismatic Christian Poltéra interprets a cello concerto by another Frenchman, whose innovation and vision of “a whole distant world” was also inspired by art and poetry. He performs on a 1711 Stradivarius cell, “Mara.”
