Who is Dayani Cristal?

Rialto Cinemas in Sebastopol has scheduled a one-time free showing of the documentary film, “Who is Dayani Cristal,” on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Admission is free. Donations to the West County Rapid Response Network (WCRRN) are appreciated. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. Space is limited and reservations are needed. To RSVP email WestCountyRapidResponse@sonic.net.

The film, a 2013 Sundance Film Festival winner, was co-produced by and stars Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal who gained international notoriety when he played the young revolutionary Che Guevara in “The Motorcycle Diaries.”

In the documentary, Bernal joins migrant travelers as he retraces the steps of ‘Dayani Cristal’ who walked from his home in Central America and into the Sonora Desert “corridor of death” while attempting to reach the United States.

The film is being brought to the Rialto by West County Rapid Response Network which is the West Sonoma County arm of the North Bay Rapid Response Network organized in recent months to provide assistance to the estimated 38,000 undocumented immigrants living in Sonoma County.
